Abstract

|
This study examined the effectiveness of mental disorder awareness improvement program for early adolescents. Study sample consisted of 5th and 6th graders of urban schools and rural schools(experimental group=131 and comparison group=126). To compare the changes in the level of mental disorder awareness between experimental group and comparison group, only experimental group members received the mental disorder awareness improvement program prior to the pre-test. Study results demonstrate that the perception of the mental disorder among the experimental group members was positively changed in both the urban school and the rural school. However, there was no difference in the level of effectiveness between experimental groups of urban schools and rural schools. Study results imply that the institutional and policy support of the government is required for the development and dissemination of mental disorder awareness improvement programs. Furthermore, practical methods should be prepared to detect and prevent mental disorders of early adolescents.
